information / keeping it green
We want to be credited with responsible stewardship of the festival site,
and to impact the local and global environment as litle as possible. We
will be instigating procedures to minimise waste and our carbon footprint.
We were banging on about this at our earliest festivals so there is no
reason to change now. However we have to work with you to achieve this
so please have a look at what we plan and what you can do to help.
Travel:
Public transport: Please use public transport
where possible. We will also be running a coach from London and a shuttle
service from Winchester Bus and Railway stations.
Car Share: If you have a spare place in your car why
not register it at Freewheelers
and arrange to give somebody a lift! If you need a lift take a look as
well, somebody may be coming from near you. Save money and reduce carbon
emissions. You will also be saving on the £5.00 car park tariff
when you arrive.
Waste: We will be using waste collectors who will be
recycling suitable products. You can help by using the appropriate waste
containers, this is one of the easiest ways to help us at the weekend,
so please do your best.
Energy: We will be striving to cut down on energy consumed
at the festival, zoning generators so they can be turned off when not
needed and using the least power possible. Due to controversy over the use of bio-diesel at the moment we have decided that with the higher cost of hiring such generators that their environmental credentials are not necessarily worth it.
Carbon Neutralising: We will be offering you the ability
to make us carbon neutral at 2008 by signing up to our pledge to use a
low energy light bulb. We will give you a free one to replace one of your
old tungsten bulbs. Help us help the planet! This was pioneered by Summer
Sundae last year and giivng out 1,000 bulbs made them carbon neutral.
Leave No Trace: We want to leave the bowl as beautiful
as we found it, so will be making sure that every last piece of rubbish
is picked up. How can you help, either don't drop it and use waste bins
or help by picking stuff up. We would also ask smokers to carry an old
35mm film case to put your stubs in, the cows don't really wnat to chew
on them!
